The ending is divisive for a reason

Rear Window commits to a conclusion that not everyone will appreciate. I found it perfectly right — it refuses easy comfort. If you want tidy resolution you may be frustrated. If you want truth, it delivers.

The score elevates every scene

The music in Rear Window is so deeply married to the images that you almost can't separate them. It stays in your head days later and when you hear it again the emotions return immediately.

Dated in some ways but still powerful

Some elements of Rear Window show their age, but the core of it — voyeurism and complicity, the film's meditation on cinema itself — hasn't diminished at all. Films this good age better than almost anything else.

Disappointed given the reputation

Rear Window is technically accomplished and I understand its place in film history. But it left me cold. The marriage and isolation element felt mechanical and I never connected emotionally. Maybe I'll try again someday.

The ending absolutely floored me

Rear Window builds so carefully to its conclusion that when it arrives you feel genuinely moved. The voyeurism and complicity thread pays off in a way that's earned rather than manipulative. Couldn't sleep afterward.
