Overrated but still very good

Die Hard has been praised so heavily that no film could live up to the hype completely. It's an excellent film — Bruce Willis's vulnerability is genuinely remarkable — but it's not the untouchable masterpiece some claim.

The craft behind this film is astonishing

Every choice in Die Hard feels deliberate. The framing, the pacing, the barefoot glass walk — John McTiernan is operating at a level most filmmakers never reach. It's the kind of film you study rather than just watch.
