First time trying Menemen — completely converted
I had never tried Menemen before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The tangy with sumac and pomegranate taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. sumac is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.
The an Istanbul meyhane tavern setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. the meze tradition of small shared dishes predates the main course. My server recommended çay black tea alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Menemen. Outstanding first encounter.
