Lamprais as comfort food — exactly what I needed
Some dishes exist to comfort and Lamprais is absolutely in that category. The tangy from goraka and tamarind quality works on something almost primal — you feel the warmth of it immediately. coconut scraped fresh does work that no substitute can replicate.
Sri Lankan cuisine differs markedly between Sinhalese, Tamil, and Burgher traditions on the same island. There's something about the a hill country tea estate restaurant context that reinforces the comfort effect. Ceylon tea alongside is the traditional way and it makes complete sense. I come back to this dish when I need something dependable and restorative.
