Underwhelming Koeksisters — expected more

I was looking forward to Koeksisters here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The spiced and savoury character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with Mrs Ball's chutney or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.

Cape Malay cuisine reflects the heritage of enslaved people brought from Southeast Asia. The a game reserve bush dinner setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. Amarula cream liqueur was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
