Honest verdict on Chakalaka — good but not exceptional
Chakalaka here was solidly made — sweet-tangy from chutney without anything to complain about. boerewors spice mix was present and handled reasonably. But something was missing from the depth that this dish should have.
Cape Malay cuisine reflects the heritage of enslaved people brought from Southeast Asia. The a Cape Malay restaurant in Cape Town atmosphere was pleasant enough. rooibos tea was available and a good suggestion. For a reliable version of Chakalaka this works. For an exceptional one, I'd keep looking. Three stars.
