I spent three months trying every version of Biltong I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled Mrs Ball's chutney with genuine knowledge and the robust and satisfying result was noticeably superior.

Cape Malay cuisine reflects the heritage of enslaved people brought from Southeast Asia. The winning restaurant had the right a weekend braai feel — unpretentious and focused on the food. Castle Lager was suggested correctly. Worth the search. When Biltong is made properly it's a completely different experience.
