Underwhelming Bacalhau — expected more
I was looking forward to Bacalhau here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The briny and savoury character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with piri piri or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.
Portugal developed bacalhau salt cod cookery while exploring the Atlantic and has over 365 recipes for it. The a Lisbon tasca restaurant setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. Vinho Verde was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
