First time trying Beef Rendang — completely converted

I had never tried Beef Rendang before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The richly spiced and coconut-sweet taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. pandan is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.

The a Baba Nyonya Peranakan restaurant setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. Penang is considered the food capital of Malaysia and rivals Singapore for hawker excellence. My server recommended teh tarik alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Beef Rendang. Outstanding first encounter.
