Some dishes exist to comfort and Shakshuka is absolutely in that category. The sesame-rich and nutty quality works on something almost primal — you feel the warmth of it immediately. silan date syrup does work that no substitute can replicate.

Israeli cuisine is shaped by Jewish diaspora traditions from across the world fused with local Levantine ingredients. There's something about the a fusion restaurant mixing Mediterranean traditions context that reinforces the comfort effect. Israeli wine alongside is the traditional way and it makes complete sense. I come back to this dish when I need something dependable and restorative.
