I spent three months trying every version of Sate Lilit I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled candlenut with genuine knowledge and the complex from slow-cooked rendang result was noticeably superior.
Indonesian cuisine spans over 17,000 islands with dramatically different regional traditions. The winning restaurant had the right a family feast table feel — unpretentious and focused on the food. Bintang beer was suggested correctly. Worth the search. When Sate Lilit is made properly it's a completely different experience.
