Honest verdict on Goulash — good but not exceptional

Goulash here was solidly made — creamy and savoury without anything to complain about. lard was present and handled reasonably. But something was missing from the depth that this dish should have.

Hungarian cuisine was shaped by nomadic Magyar traditions mixed with Ottoman and Habsburg influences. The a Budapest csárda tavern atmosphere was pleasant enough. Pálinka fruit brandy was available and a good suggestion. For a reliable version of Goulash this works. For an exceptional one, I'd keep looking. Three stars.
