I spent an afternoon making Ful Medames from scratch following a traditional recipe. Getting coriander seed right was the main challenge — it's not as straightforward as it looks. The subtly herbal result was rewarding once I got it right.

Egyptian cuisine is one of the oldest recorded food cultures, with accounts dating to pharaonic times. I served it with karkadeh hibiscus tea as the recipe suggested and the pairing made sense. It took longer than I expected but the outcome was genuinely satisfying. Making Ful Medames yourself gives you a new appreciation for what goes into it at a restaurant.
