First time trying Svíčková na Smetaně — completely converted

I had never tried Svíčková na Smetaně before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The hearty and deeply savoury taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. Czech beer is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.

The a market square lunch counter setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. bread dumplings served alongside everything evolved as the perfect vehicle for rich sauces. My server recommended svíčková cream sauce alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Svíčková na Smetaně. Outstanding first encounter.
