I was looking forward to Shepherd's Pie here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The deeply satisfying character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with malt vinegar or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.

British cuisine was shaped by the Empire, introducing curries and international ingredients into the national diet. The a full English café breakfast setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. a glass of claret with Sunday roast was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
