Honest verdict on Shepherd's Pie — good but not exceptional
Shepherd's Pie here was solidly made — rich and savoury without anything to complain about. proper beef suet was present and handled reasonably. But something was missing from the depth that this dish should have.
British cuisine was shaped by the Empire, introducing curries and international ingredients into the national diet. The a country house hotel atmosphere was pleasant enough. a glass of claret with Sunday roast was available and a good suggestion. For a reliable version of Shepherd's Pie this works. For an exceptional one, I'd keep looking. Three stars.
