Underwhelming Shorshe Ilish — expected more

I was looking forward to Shorshe Ilish here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The spicy and tangy character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with posto poppy seeds or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.

hilsa fish is a cultural icon in Bangladesh — its seasonal availability is a national event. The a traditional Bengali home setting I was hoping for wasn't quite there either. lassi was available but not suggested appropriately. I've had much better versions elsewhere. Two stars because the dish concept is sound; the execution let it down.
