Best Shorshe Ilish I've had — and I've tried a few

Having eaten Shorshe Ilish at several restaurants over the past year, I can say this version is the best. The pungent from mustard oil quality is more pronounced here than anywhere else I've tried. panch phoron five-spice is handled with real knowledge — you can taste the difference.

This is proper a Dhaka riverside fish restaurant cooking, not an adaptation for foreign tastes. hot sweet tea was the obvious choice and the combination was perfect. hilsa fish is a cultural icon in Bangladesh — its seasonal availability is a national event. Would return for this dish alone.
