First time trying Bhuna Khichuri — completely converted
I had never tried Bhuna Khichuri before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The earthy from poppy seeds taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. posto poppy seeds is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.
The a Sylheti tea estate setting added something to the experience — this kind of food makes sense in that environment. Bengali cuisine shares roots with West Bengal India but has distinct Muslim food traditions. My server recommended hot sweet tea alongside and it was exactly right. I've been telling everyone to try Bhuna Khichuri. Outstanding first encounter.
