Lahmajoun opened a door into a cuisine I'd previously known almost nothing about. The subtly tangy flavours are unlike anything in my usual rotation and I mean that positively. Armenia claims the world's oldest winery dating to 4100 BC and has a deep wine-making heritage. Understanding that context made the dish taste different — richer with meaning.

I learned that pomegranate is central to this cuisine's character, not just a seasoning. The a family khorovats barbecue Sunday setting was authentic and helpful for understanding what I was eating. pomegranate wine completed the picture. A genuinely educational meal.
