Some dishes exist to comfort and Firni is absolutely in that category. The aromatic with cardamom and saffron quality works on something almost primal — you feel the warmth of it immediately. dried sour grapes kishmish does work that no substitute can replicate.

Afghan hospitality tradition demands feeding guests regardless of the host's circumstances. There's something about the a teahouse on the Silk Road route context that reinforces the comfort effect. green cardamom tea alongside is the traditional way and it makes complete sense. I come back to this dish when I need something dependable and restorative.
