Unexpected emotional depth in Brazil
I thought I was going to Brazil for beaches, food, and Amazon rainforest. I got all of those things. What I didn't expect was how emotionally affecting the trip would be. The history — particularly around Manaus — hit in ways that good travel sometimes does.

Three weeks in Brazil — here is what I actually think
Three weeks is long enough to get past the tourist surface in Brazil. The first week I was in Salvador and the big sites like Copacabana Beach. The second and third I went further and slower. The food evolution was interesting — açaí bowl everywhere but prepared so differently by region.

Honest review after 6 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited Brazil for 6 days. The positives are real: Copacabana Beach is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Salvador is genuinely excellent — try açaí bowl if you haven't. extraordinary natural diversity was an unexpected bonus.
That said, petty crime in cities requires …

Would not rush back to Brazil — vast country is expensive to travel internally was a real issue
I wanted to love Brazil more than I did. The positives exist: Copacabana Beach is genuinely impressive, Florianópolis has moments of real charm, and churrasco is as good as people say.
But vast country is expensive to travel internally was a persistent problem throughout the trip and dragged the ex…

Brazil in shoulder season — best decision I made
Visited Brazil in shoulder season deliberately and the decision paid off completely. Lençóis Maranhenses without peak crowds is a totally different experience. Manaus felt lived-in rather than touristy. Found a small place doing the best churrasco I've ever tasted — something that would have been in…

Honest thoughts on Brazil after my first visit
First time in Brazil and I tried to approach it with open eyes rather than preconceptions. São Paulo was the base and a good one — central, manageable, and with strong food options including the best brigadeiro I've ever had. Copacabana Beach was the big set piece and fully justified the trip.

The food in Brazil changed how I think about travel
I travel for food more than anything else, and Brazil shot straight to the top of my culinary travel list. brigadeiro alone justified the flight, but that was just the beginning. The variety and quality in Florianópolis is relentless — I didn't have a single disappointing meal in 8 days.

Family holiday in Brazil — kids loved it, parents survived
Took the family to Brazil for 9 days and it worked better than I'd hoped. The kids were fascinated by Christ the Redeemer — more than I expected from children who usually resist sightseeing. Food was manageable: even the pickiest eater in our group found things to eat, and acarajé went down well wit…

Weekend in Manaus, Brazil — more than I expected from a short trip
Only had a long weekend — about 10 days — in Brazil, based in Manaus. More than enough to fall for the place. Did Lençóis Maranhenses on day one and spent the rest of the time just walking and eating. The açaí bowl situation here is no joke — some of the best eating I've done anywhere.
