Escaped twice — cage needs to be escape-proof

Dwarf hamsters are extraordinary escape artists. Mine got through what I thought was a secure bar-spacing gap and went missing for two days before I found her behind the washing machine. I switched to an aquarium-style tank with a mesh lid and the problem was solved. Just be very aware of cage security — dwarf hamsters can squeeze through tiny gaps and navigate their way around any enclosure with weaknesses.
