Best first horse for a beginner

I bought my Quarter Horse as a completely green adult beginner and she has been the most patient, forgiving teacher imaginable. She's never spooked me off, tolerates my inconsistent aids with good humour, and gets excited for every ride. Three years later I'm confidently trail riding in the mountains and starting western pleasure lessons. I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to horse ownership.
