Health issues are a real consideration

I love my Friesian unconditionally but the breed's health challenges are real. My mare has megaoesophagus (a known Friesian condition) which requires careful management of her feed consistency and presentation. She also has sweet itch affecting her legs. The vet bills have been significant. Research Friesian-specific health conditions thoroughly and find a vet experienced with the breed before committing to ownership.
