Independence requires patience

My Ridgeback is wonderful but the independent streak is real. She decides which commands are worth following and when. Training required two years of consistent daily work and professional guidance. She is now reliable but it was a genuine investment. She is not a dog you can train once and consider done. She needs ongoing engagement. For an experienced owner with time she is excellent. For a first-time owner she would be challenging.
