Most trainable small breed

I have owned multiple small breeds and my Papillon is far and away the most responsive and trainable of all of them. He picks up training rapidly, performs reliably under distraction, and genuinely loves the mental engagement of working with me. He has competed successfully in obedience, rally, and nosework. His energy level is higher than I expected from a small dog but he is manageable with sufficient daily exercise and training.
