Great German Shepherd experience — just go in with realistic expectations

My German Shepherd Bella is 3 years old now and has been a wonderful companion. The breed lives up to its reputation: loyal beyond words. I particularly love that thrives with a job.

My one knock is that degenerative myelopathy risk. I underestimated this when I first got he. Also, needs serious mental stimulation is something you need to plan for. It's not a dealbreaker but requires commitment.

On the health front, hip and elbow dysplasia. Budget for that and you'll be fine. Four solid stars — would recommend to the right owner who knows what they're getting into.
