Great Maine Coon experience — just go in with realistic expectations

My Maine Coon Zoe is 4 years old now and has been a wonderful companion. The breed lives up to its reputation: loves water. I particularly love that dog-like personality.

My one knock is that slow to mature. I underestimated this when I first got she. Also, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy risk is something you need to plan for. It's not a dealbreaker but requires commitment.

On the health front, spinal muscular atrophy. Budget for that and you'll be fine. Four solid stars — would recommend to the right owner who knows what they're getting into.
