Good but not exceptional in any direction

The American Shorthair is an excellent cat. But if you're looking for the most beautiful coat, most acrobatic mover, most affectionate personality, or most distinctive look, this isn't it. It's a well-rounded, reliable, pleasant companion — the cat equivalent of a reliable sedan. Nothing wrong with that, it just depends what you're after.
